Do you know how to tell the difference between male and female monarchs?

The easiest way to tell them apart is that male monarchs have two small black dots on the top surface of the hindwing. You can see the spot when the wings are open, and sometimes it’s faintly visible when the wings are closed, too.

Females also tend to be slightly darker in color and have thicker wing veins.

Now, when you see a monarch visiting your garden this summer, you'll be able to tell whether it's a male or female!
