MC Forsman Ranch

It was an icy and cold night and day here on the ranch. Last night the freezing rain was coming down heavy and it was still coming down this morning. Our power went out around 1:00AM or so. Was still off when we got up.

The day got started by getting a fire going in the fireplace.

We did cook some breakfast by pulling the gas barbecue grill into the garage and using the side burner to cook bacon and eggs.

Then it was on to the generators. Got the one for the house running without much problem.

Next was getting the gater and tractor out of the. Shop. The ice had accumulated so much on the doors that they were too heavy to lift. Spent quite a bit of time with the hose spraying water on the iced up doors getting the ice to melt. It took a while but finally got the gator and tractor out.

On to the generator for the stock tank. The one for the stock tank was being difficult today so we had to resort to the third generator. Finally got tock tank heaters on the cattle stock tank.

It was now about 4:00PM and as could be expected, the power came back on.

We have at least one tree that came down. Many broken large branches that are still hanging in the trees. Oh well, we at least have power restored tonight and had a good hot dinner. At least we have power. Out power company announced at 6:00PM that if your power wasn’t on at that point it wasn’t going to come on tonight.

Do you know how to make a country girl happy. You put supplemental driving lights and work lights on her John Deere Gator. Now that we’re on standard time and the daylight hours are getting shorter it means that many times we’re out out feeding and taking care of the animals in the dark. The new lights really make a difference.
