📣Announcement📣: At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, we took a historic step forward for our community by announcing our decision to move ahead with a preschool expansion application to the state. After more than a year of thoughtful collaboration with our Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and administrative team, we are excited to pursue a gradual, phased expansion through a community provider partnership model — ensuring fiscal responsibility with no additional burden to taxpayers.

When Kasey Dudley, Nadeisha Greene, and I ran together for the Board in 2023, we committed to putting early learning at the center of our platform — and today, we’re delivering on that promise. Research is clear: access to high-quality preschool strengthens academic outcomes and helps level the playing field for all students. By investing in our earliest learners, we are investing in the long-term success of our entire community.

While there is still work to be done to ensure the application leads to a successful implementation of pre-k expansion, we are confident that the administration is up to the task. Thank you to all my fellow Board members, our administration, and the community for making this milestone possible.

Everyone is impacted by mental health conditions – including friends, family, and coworkers who don’t live with a mental health condition themselves. One in five adults in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition each year, which impacts those who know and love them. This year, Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 6 – 12 and World Mental Health Day is October 10.

Join us on June 13, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Bloomfield High School, as we honor two outstanding students, dedicated community members/fathers, and one of our exceptional educators, who will be named this year's recipients of the Juneteenth Flame of Inspiration Award.
