Training! Meaning; who’s training who? We started separating the baby bucks 3 days ago. The first day was a complete failure as someone left a gate unlatched. Yesterday we had it all figured out until last evening I double. Checked the barn camera and determined something wasn’t right. It became clearer that goat drama was clearly going on when stepping outside I heard 2 baby goats wailing. The piece of plywood that closes off the entry door to the baby’s side of the barn had slipped into place and was blocking the entrance. It was easier to let LeRoy and Chris back in with there momma’s. LeRoy is 4 weeks younger than the other bucks and Chris is now a wether so it is ok for now to let them stay with their momma. This allowed us to get a nice portion of goat milk from Oreo & Chester’s momma. We will try to keep milking her ( Liza) for a few days to accumulate enough milk to make Chèvre!
Thanks for watching!

Today the sun will rise around 5 a.m. and set around 10 p.m.
this means - SUMMER- if officially here ! Long days give you every opportunity to get things done. That would require energy as well. My advice for you; PACE yourself. Here hoping you take time to enjoy the summer! Thanks for checking in.

Our herd’s Pygora ( R) fiber is ready to head to the mill! It has taken us 5 years of experiencing shearing and timing to finally get the rhythm of shearing a Pygora goat down-:) Shearing your goat when she is in her prime is key. This means; not when you feel like it or when you have the time or when the temperature outside is right. You need to shear when the goat’s fiber is ready! The goat room has helped us so much as we can turn lights on if it is night. We can turn up the heat if it is cold. We can separate the goat from the herd so she can be calm on the stand. The fiber when at its prime is easy to skirt and takes less time to prep for the mill. We are having MM fiber mill out of Kansas process it into riving and cloud. Stay tuned for announcements when our herd will be opening the shop for a fiber day!

Junia must have been taking a nap 💤 because when she woke up, the herd had headed out to the far pasture and she could not see them or know where to find them. I heard her crying. The crying didn’t stop so I kept watching her. When she went out of sight I still heard her fussing. That’s when I discovered she had slipped right through our walk-in gate and was running around outside the fence! Oh dear! The other goats are too big to slip through that gate. Looks like we need to put another panel up in front of the gate so Junia can’t leave the pasture. She wasn’t making trouble; she was just trying to find her herd. She had an hour with us in the front yard and once the herd returned we led her back to the barn and she was a happy little goat!
