💬 "It has been quite the journey! My son Zac passed away 5 years ago which sparked a fire under me to pursue this degree. I want to help people struggling with mental health issues like he did. There are so many people with limited access to care, and I want to help bridge that gap. UAB School of Nursing has taught me the skills I need to be a competent provider.

"The instructors have been very kind and accessible through this program and always wanted the best for each of us! I have a job at the psychiatrist office where I’ve done my clinical rotations, and I’ll start as soon as I’m licensed. I look forward to my new career and the opportunities UAB has provided. They definitely set their students up for success," - Cayla Eikeland, MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. 👩‍⚕️ 💚

Education has always been about more than earning a degree for David Turner. It has been about service, curiosity, and creating opportunities for others to grow.

Inspired by his grandparents' lifelong dedication to education and healthcare, Turner joined UAB to pursue a master's degree through the Alternative Master's Program in Secondary Education. Along the way, he discovered mentors who challenged him to think differently, classmates who broadened his perspective, and a deeper understanding of what it means to teach with purpose.

Today, Turner is beginning a new chapter as an educator, carrying forward the lessons that shaped his own journey.

"As a teacher, I hope to provide for my students what the educators at UAB have been able to provide for me: academic excellence, community advocacy, critical awareness, and love."
