AMICO Architectural Metal Systems

The Xcel Energy Substation screen is one of our favorite projects. In Minneapolis, this substation sat in the middle of a residential area and was less than enjoyable to look at despite its functional necessity. The architect hired to come in and solve this problem did a brilliant job of solving this problem. They clad the substation in AMICO's Bellesa expanded mesh and included all the outstanding design elements of an excellent expanded mesh installation:

1. The design brakes free of flat surfaces and right angles, incorporating curves and joints in a surface that moves in and out.

2. The design breaks up the surface further by leveraging negative space with surface cutouts.

3.Lastly, the design incorporates critical but straightforward lighting elements that turn on and off slowly through the night and change colors, further emphasizing the dynamic nature of the surfaces they create.
