One thing I’ve noticed after years of doing lashes and nails in Big Spring.

People tend to talk when they’re sitting in a chair for a couple of hours.

Not right away.

Usually somewhere between choosing a nail color and the moment they finally close their eyes on the lash bed.

Maybe it’s because there are no emails to answer.

No meetings to attend.

No one asking them for anything.

For a little while, they can simply be a person.

And that’s usually when the real conversations begin.

Over the years, I’ve heard stories about businesses that keep people awake at night.

Mothers worried about their children.

People caring for aging parents.

Relationships that look perfectly fine from the outside.

Financial pressure.

Health scares.

And sometimes, just plain exhaustion.

The funny thing is that almost nobody ever says:

“Life is easy right now.”

What I hear much more often is:

“I’m tired.”

“It’s been one thing after another.”

“I just need a minute.”

And then almost every time, they smile right afterward.

As if they need to make sure nobody mistakes honesty for complaining.

That’s something I’ve always admired about West Texas.

People here carry a lot.

They go to work.

Take care of their families.

Keep their word.

Help their neighbors.

Show up when they’re needed.

And most of the time, they do it without making a big show of it.

But lately I’ve found myself wondering about something.

When did being exhausted become so normal?

When did “I’m busy” become the default answer to “How are you?”

When did needing a little time for yourself start feeling like something you had to earn?

I don’t have any great wisdom to offer.

I just know that after thousands of conversations across a nail table and a lash bed, I’ve realized something:

A lot of the strongest people I know are carrying far more than they let anyone see.

Maybe that’s why a little kindness goes such a long way.

Because you never really know what someone had to carry before they walked through the door.

Just something I’ve been thinking about.

A beautiful set of nails has never been about polish.

It is about the quiet confidence that follows.

The feeling of looking down at your hands and seeing that someone took the time to create something thoughtful, precise, and entirely your own.

In a world increasingly built around speed, we still believe certain things deserve craftsmanship.
