I wrapped up with two clients this week which is always a little bit sad but also very exciting. It’s so awesome to see all of the progress that folks make and even cooler when they achieve their goals.

Yesterday I briefly touched on the topic of food rules. We all have a number of food rules floating around in our head at any given moment whether we’re conscious of it or not.
There are folks out there that think having any rules regarding food is a negative thing and there are folks who believe the opposite. For me I think the question is really are those rules truly helpful to you.
There are folks out there that function very well with rules. And I think the time when rules become a problem when it comes to food is when they are so rigid that they start getting in the way of you fulfilling your needs and living your life. When they’re so rigid they become almost like an obsession or lead to disordered behaviors.
That being said, it can be easy for rules to start to control us. And so I think it’s important that we become aware of the rules that we follow and we ask ourselves are they really and truly helpful to us. Like, really.
And if they’re not - if they’re taking enjoyment away from our food, if they’re turning eating into a stressful activity, if they’re making food a preoccupation, if they are running the show - it’s time to get rid of them.
