Josef Hadeed, MD
Lipedema and lymphedema are not the same thing and being misdiagnosed means being mistreated.
Lymphedema is a fluid problem. It responds to compression, drainage, and elevation and leaves a temporary indentation when you press on the skin.
Lipedema is an abnormal fat problem. It affects both legs symmetrically, does not respond to compression, does not pit when pressed, and comes with tenderness, easy bruising, and a distinct cuffing around the ankles.
If you have been treated for one and nothing is working, it is worth asking if the right diagnosis is actually on the table.
