GLENN BECK: What I saw walking the National Mall this week left me proud and a little heartbroken, and I don't think those two feelings are supposed to show up together.

This is America's 250th birthday. Not a political party's birthday. Not one president's or another's. America’s.

Every state got a small spot on the Mall to tell its story, maybe twenty by thirty feet. Just enough room to say: this is who we are; this is what we gave the country. Pennsylvania took that seriously. They had flags from Gettysburg, flags from the founding era and flags from the Centennial. Standing there, you could tell somebody understood they'd been handed something valuable and didn't want to drop it.
