There are patterns behind chronic or recurring symptoms. One of those patterns can look like: one part of you is wanting/feeling one thing, and another part of you (often under the radar) is wanting/feeling something a bit (or very) different.

I saw this in action working with someone who'd been dealing with chronic constipation. When I asked her about her relationship with her partner, she expressed gratitude for having someone in her life who fully accepted and supported her. She summed up with "everything's good there."

But when we started to track her symptom flares, we noticed something. Things got worse for her following times her partner spent time with a friend when she was not included or "did their own thing" in another part of the house. As we dug deeper, she admitted (reluctantly) that she felt "abandoned" and maybe even a little angry at her partner. But she would talk herself out of feeling that way because she knew "that doesn't make any sense."

When we were able to connect the dots, she began seeing the situation differently. What "makes sense" to our "logical" mind is often very different to what "makes sense" to our primal animal mind and body.

Ultimately this woman was able to make space for ALL of her feelings about the situation. Not long thereafter, she experienced a BIG release. 😁
