We're excited to share that Alameda Building 8 received 'Outstanding Structural Engineering Project' from the 2026 ASCE Golden Gate Branch Awards – congratulations to the entire project team!

Naval Air Station Alameda Historic District Building 8, also known as the General Storehouse, was used for heavy material storage until the air station closed in the late 1990s. Twenty-five years later, the warehouse has been transformed into a residential building with 198 live-work lofts and two restaurants. The mixed-use facility now contributes to the revitalization of Alameda Point by housing hundreds of new tenants and demonstrating the potential of other underused and historically significant buildings in the area. This 302,500-square-foot project shows how a creative, analysis-driven structural engineering approach can unlock the latent capacity of a historic building to deliver much-needed housing in the Bay Area. Learn more here: https://tippingstructural.com/projects/storehouse-lofts/

The recipients will be celebrated at the 2026 ASCE Golden Gate Branch Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, July 30th. Registration: https://ggbr.r9-asce.org/events/2026-ggbr-awards/

We're excited to share that the Samuel Merritt University Oakland City Center received 'Outstanding Architectural Engineering Project' from the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers Golden Gate Branch Awards – congratulations to the project team!

Located in downtown Oakland, the new high-rise building serves as the flagship campus for Samuel Merritt University, a leader in health science education. Featuring an innovative seismic design and a Buckling Restrained Braced (BRB) Mast frame, the new 10-story, 250,000-square-foot campus allows the more than century-old organization to double its enrollment and directly address the Bay Area’s critical shortage of healthcare workers. The campus headquarters features classrooms, laboratories, clinics, offices, a maker space, and a 41,000-square-foot simulated lab.
