📣BLOCKELEY DAY Q&A PANEL ANNOUNCEMENT📣: Our first keynote speaker is Jeff McKune who is a principal engineering manager on Minecraft with extensive experience at Microsoft solving the world’s most urgent problems.
He's been on the team for almost 5 years, and is responsible for the engineering system (build and test automation) and player safety including the in-game experience, high-scale abuse detection in text and images and the end-to-end backend intelligence system.
His first job in Minecraft was dev on Minecraft: Education Edition where his focus was getting Minecraft into the classroom and leveraging Minecraft to teach kids how to code (integrating with Code.org Hour of Code, MakeCode, Tynker, Scratch and Python). Today, Minecraft: Education Edition is the world’s most popular game-based learning platform.
Before Minecraft, he worked in Windows Safety on massive scale, closed loop intelligence systems to protect Windows and IE/Edge users from phishing and malware. This work includes creating abuse prevention user experiences, client code integration, delivering high scale reputation delivery web services and writing machine learning intel algorithms in a big data environment.

We have 💥Blockeley Day💥 updates! This is an all day conference event where we’ll host workshops, speakers, and fun activities focused around game design and backend development.
This event will be on held on a Saturday, April 30th from 10am to 4pm. Location will be in Jacobs Hall (room TBA).
Come be involved by participating in our open build competition! Build guidelines include:
1. Builds must fit within a 32x32 space.
2. We’ll be judging on build quality and creativity.
3. Builds will be due by Saturday, April 23rd. Submit at tinyurl.com/blockeleycompetition
Rewards for 1st place will be a 3D print of your build, then runner ups will receive a 3D print of the campanile. Have fun with it and save the date for Blockeley Day where we’ll announce the winners!
