The Berea FIRE Program

Join us for our final event of the semester, closing our theme of Black Masculinity! On Saturday, December 4th starting at 5 pm, we will be showing a screening of the movie Moonlight at the Carter G. Woodson Center. This film looks at three defining chapters in the life of Chiron, a young black man growing up in Miami. His epic journey to manhood is guided by the kindness, support and love of the community that helps raise him. Food will be provided and we hope you can make it!

Some photos from our big book giveaway! We gave out over 15 free physical copies of Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas to those who attended our book club discussions of We Real Cool by bell hooks! Alongside the $20 book, each person received a cute bag funded by Party for Socialism and Liberation Kentucky which included some sweet treats, political education, a hand written letter from our Staff, and much more! We’re so thankful to all of our partners and sponsors who helped made this dream of ours a reality!

You can join us this month for our discussion of Concrete Rose on Saturday, November 20th at 5 pm on campus at the Carter G Woodson Center. Thank you to those who attended the Berea FIRE Program's first book club meetings of the Fall 2021 semester. Both went very well and we had some wonderful dialogue! We are so excited to announce that we will be giving out 13 FREE physical copies of our book for November, Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas! 🥳 Participants who attended will be reached out to about how they can receive their free copy!

Let's keep growing this number! All Berea Community members can join us on Sunday, October 24th at 5 pm on Zoom for a discussion on chapters 6-10 of We Real Cool: Black Men and Masculinity by bell hooks!

Berea College students, faculty, and staff can join us on Friday, October 29th at 6 pm for an in-person discussion on chapters 6-10 of We Real Cool: Black Men and Masculinity by bell hooks at the bell hooks Center (Draper 106)! All new participants will receive a FREE physical copy of Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas!
