In celebration of my Mother Geraldine Elaine Gerardo Ramsey who passed December 22nd, 25 years ago.
This photo was taken when she was 25 years old the same age as Salma today. Now we know where Salma got those beautiful curls.
The one thing I can share about Jeri , was she was just Jeri. Loving, witty and very quiet.

Someone told me that the greatest grief we experience is the moment we are born, when we suddenly lose the drum of our mother’s heartbeat. The rhythm that nursed and comforted us as we grew into life is lost, and with it, the very backdrop of existence as we knew it. The one reassuring sound falls silent, and there we are, one small day, beginning the journey of our lifetime, feeling as if our home has been taken away. This brings tremendous tenderness into my being because I know we actually needed to lose that sound, however painful, for the intention was to go out and search for our own. We are meant to find what is hidden inside of us—something that is ours, closer than our breath, closer than our mother’s heartbeat.

This grief we feel at our birth sets in motion an insatiable need to search for something within our own breathing bodies. We often look outward for it, but this yearning will not cease until we reach the still point of our great rhythmic hum. There is a drum to be found; our mother’s was the message. She could send the instructions and imprint the point on the map we perpetually seek. It is our hearts that are meant to find it, and it is here now, beneath the noise, the grief, and the pain of our forgetfulness and is closer than we realize❤️
