One hundred years ago yesterday — September 7, 1925 — the building now known as the Bend-La Pine Schools Education Center first opened its doors as Bend Union High School. That day marked the beginning of a century filled with learning, community, and unforgettable stories. Over the years, this historic building has served many roles: it became Cascade Junior High, hosted the first classes of Central Oregon Community College, and welcomed young learners as the community’s Kinder Center. In 1993, the building was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. We invite you to celebrate this incredible milestone with us! On Saturday, September 27, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, we’re opening the doors of the Education Center for a community open house. Enjoy tours, view artifacts, listen to performances by Bend-La Pine music groups, and sample bites from the Bend Senior High culinary program — all while exploring a century of memories.
