Here is our Webskis wax recommendation for the 2023 Boulder Mountain Tour. This is based on our having skied that event a number of times and knowing what we do about the snow on the course. We are not there testing.
The NOAA forecast:
Tonight (Thursday): Increasing clouds, with a low around 18. South southeast wind 7 to 9 mph.
Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 34. South southeast wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. South southwest wind 9 to 11 mph becoming west after midnight.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
If I were there using Solda wax, here is how I would prepare my skis:
Base: Dry rub a good layer of Solda HC28. Then apply a layer of Solda Super Linea Green and iron them together. Scrape and Brush. Feel free to repeat the whole process as more layers can help in abrasive snow.
Mid layer: Apply a layer of Solda S30 cold powder. Iron this and scrape while it is still warm. Brush with a fine horsehair brush. This could be your top coat.
Top layer: Finish with a layer of Solda HL6 (cold) powder. This is a high lubrix (non-fluoro) powder that goes on smoothly. Scrape and brush. If it does snow more than forecast and the temps don’t get too cold, you could top with Solda Superglide Pink liquid. After this dries, brush with a soft nylon brush, or use a long staple fleece roto brush with light pressure.
If you are using Vauhti wax here is what you need:
Base: Apply a layer of Pure One Cold paraffin. Scrape and brush. Repeat this layer.
Mid layer: This would be a good time to combine with Solda and apply a layer of S30 cold powder. Scrape it when it is still warm and brush with a fine horsehair brush.
Top layer: Finish with a layer of Vauhti Pure Race Cold (old snow) liquid. Apply a layer, let it dry and then polish with a soft nylon brush, or use a long staple roto fleece with light pressure. Repeat this layer.
Thanks,
Bert Hinkley
Enjoy a view of many ways to enjoy cross country skiing.

Ski jumping is a nordic discipline that many of you may not be familiar with. Here, in the U.S., during the 1920's, '30s, 40's and up through the 1970s, where ever there was a population of Scandinavian immigrants, ski clubs formed, jumps were constructed and festivals of flying were held. The popularity of jumping declined as ski areas grew bigger and recreational skiers were more likely to be urban dwellers who traveled to ski for short vacations. Currently, USA Nordic Sports is on a mission to revive this exciting discipline in America. Contact them if you are interested in helping. And Congrats to Sarah Hendrickson on here remarkable career.
Congrats on your retirement, Sarah! We are forever thankful to have witnessed the way you influenced the sport of ski jumping. We wish you all the best on your next adventure!
Repost Sarah Hendrickson (): My career in the sport of ski jumping has undeniably been a dream come true. I am forever in love with this sport and every opportunity and person it has included. As I step away from being an athlete, my dedication to bettering the sport remains a top priority in my life. I will never be too far from the ski jumping family, as I remain involved politically. Thank you to the incredible people that made it all possible. My success was fueled by my community, sponsors, fans, friends and family. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! ❤️
