CLS 2023!

Professional Language Training will offer online courses in Beginning and Advanced Russian this Fall, September 5th - December 9th. Deadline to enroll is August 15th.

Professional Language Training The Center for Language Studies is pleased to offer language courses to professionals and continuing education students.

Is there a good word to describe Center for Langauage Studies (CLS)? Those three are just the start. The CLS program at Beloit College offers you the opportunity to become fluent in a critical language without leaving the country.

And the best part, is that it is affordable🥳. Because we care about the education and experience you receive. Did you know that all students who are enrolled in the Center for Language Studies are eligible for the John Wyatt Award, named in memory of the founder of CLS, John Wyatt (1937-2008).

Dr. Wyatt served as professor of comparative literature and classics at Beloit College from 1971 to 1996, and founded the Center for Language Studies in 1982. He served as instructor and dean of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture from 1994 - 2004.

Krystian, a third year CLS Chinese student from Villanova University, came to Beloit and here is what he has to say about our program.

"Originally, I wanted to go to China to teach English because I thought I would really help hone my skills. An immersion program but I ultimately decided to go to Beloit because I realized that just by going to China and teaching English, I 'd use English in the classroom, as a language of instruction. At Beloit, outside the classroom we use Chinese as much as possible."

We truly live up to the phrase, "Live a language as you learn it." From conversation, to food and meals, to art and culture. You can immerse yourself in the language without having to travel to the location.
