Aphids just love the tender, succulent new growth on spring growing houseplants. These tiny insects suck the juices from leaves and stems weakening the plant. Keep an eye out for them and, if detected, simply spray your houseplants with insecticidal soap. This may be done outside on a warm day or inside in a bathtub or deep sink. Be certain to spray under the leaves as well. ; ; ;

Soil is often soggy after winter snow and a moist spring. Never plant in wet soil as you will irreparably damage its structure. How do you know if your soil is ready for planting in the spring? Take a handful and squeeze. If ready to plant, the soil will not remain a sticky ball when you open your hand but rather crumble when poked lightly. ; ; ;
