Between packing and keeping up with the end of school activities, you realize you haven’t really talked to your little kids much about your upcoming move. It is a HUGE transition for them and now you’re stressing about how they’re going to handle it.

Don’t worry! They’re going to be okay! Here are a few tips that have worked for our clients to make things a little easier for you!

Give them some time to process what’s happening and ask questions. Talk to your kids about the move and the new house in advance. This gives them time to process the change. A visual countdown to your move date will help kids adjust and know what to expect. We’ve seen some cute interactive ones where the kids put stickers or check off the days until the move.

Packaging their toys is tough.
✔️Reassure them that all their favorite toys are coming to the new house.
✔️Letting them pick their favorite toys that will come with you on the day of the move is super helpful.
✔️These toys go in a backpack or bag that comes in your car with you, not in the moving truck.

On the topic of last minute essentials, we suggest a “go bag” with snacks, extra clothes and diapers. Nothing is worse than a hangry toddler when you’re trying to direct the movers at your new house.

Now that we’ve given you a few tips for a smoother move with little ones, click the link in our bio to check out an entire post on this topic! There are so many resources there to help make your upcoming move as easy as possible.

I didn’t become a professional organizer because I loved bins.

Before Organizing Boston, I was working behind a computer in a cubicle, feeling like I was living in a Dilbert cartoon. I knew I wanted something different. Something more active, more hands-on, and more connected to real life.

I’ve always loved projects: managing the details, solving problems, fixing what isn’t working, and creating something better on the other side. Then I picked up a book about decluttering and organizing, jumped right in, and realized pretty quickly that I had a real knack for it.

But what really hooked me wasn’t the stuff.

It was seeing how organizing could reduce stress, create calm, and help people feel better in their homes.

26 years later, that’s still why I do this work.

Meaningful work. Real change. Calmer homes.
