Take your family and friends on a magical journey through the marvelously detailed world of model railroads at the Washington State History Museum! Open from December 19, 2025 to January 1, 2026 (Closed December 24 and 25)

The Model Train Festival brings railroad clubs from around Puget Sound to share their incredible, room-sized layouts in the History Museum! Every floor of the museum comes alive with trains, from the Kitsap Live Steamers 7.5-inch gauge railroad engines to the Mount Rainier N-Scale layout featuring miniature scenery of Western Washington and so many more.

Plus, the largest permanent model train layout in Washington is always on display at the museum on the fifth floor, operated by Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers. Train operators will be on hand for questions and conversations.

Enjoy trains on the big screen in our auditorium, where I Love Toy Trains and I Love Big Trains, from filmmaker Tom McComas will screen throughout the festival. The auditorium lobby will serve as a family room with toy trains, Legos, and more.

Open House at Whatcom Skagit Model Railroad Club this Saturday!

Fall is upon us with elections, holidays, football games, apple cider, and of course the Whatcom Skagit Model Railroad Club's Open House on November 8, 2025 from 11 am to 3 pm. We will be hosting our third open house of the 2024-2025 season this Saturday. So ELECT to bring the kids, the grandparents, your friends, your family, your boss, and a Pumpkin Spice Latte to Alger to experience the wonder that is model railroading. Come and see the trains at the WSMRC this Saturday and every second Saturday through May 2026. And later this month we will be hosting a special Thanksgiving Open House on Saturday November 29th.

Suggested donations are $3 per person or $5 per family.

Join the members of the Whatcom Skagit Model Railroad Club for the 2025 Lynden Lions Club Model Train & Toy Show on October 4th & 5th at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in the Henry Jansen Agriculture Center in Lynden, Washington. Come see over 50,000 square feet of model train layouts, exhibits and vendors. Trains of all gauges for Train Buffs of all ages and toys as well!

Saturday October 4th from 9-5 and Sunday October 5th from 10-4.

Admission $10 for Adults, $8 for Seniors, Children (6-12) $5,
