Join the WWU Center for Service-Learning and Village Books in Fairhaven for the 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Read-In on Monday, January 18, at Village Books.
Volunteers are needed to read children's books to small groups of kids and families that attend the read-in. This is a one-day event and a great way to get an introduction to the meaning of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday and to connect with the local community.
Date: Monday, January 18, 2016
Location: Village Books in Fairhaven (bottom floor)
Time Options: Two different shifts available; 9:30am to noon or 11:30am to 2pm. Each shift begins with a brief onsite orientation with Village Books staff.
Training: Volunteers are asked to attend a training on Thursday, January 14, from 5pm to 6pm in Wilson Library, room 270. This is an important element of the event to allow students to become familiar with some of the books, gain tips on reading to children, and learn about the social justice themes that will come up at the event.
If you are interested in taking part, please e-mail April McMurry at [email protected] by Tuesday, January 12, to confirm your spot.
