Net neutrality has been named the most important first amendment issue of our time, and has huge implications for the future of internet access and how we are able to gather information. Net neutrality is defined by the Federal Communications Commission Guidelines as “the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.”

TAG has assembled representatives from key stakeholder companies to discuss the political, philosophical, and economic issues involved in how the internet functions and how net neutrality will affect both individual consumers and large corporations. Representatives include David Nicksic, Manager of the Enterprise Engineering Team for Comcast, John VanOppen, Senior Vice President of Spectrum Networks for Wave Broadband, Jim Reavis, Cloud Security Alliance’s (CSA) Chief Executive Officer, and Michael Schultzer, Chief Executive Officer for Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) will participate in the conversations and defend each side of the debate.

2012 marks the inaugural year that the Technology Alliance Group (TAG) for Northwest Washington will present awards to companies, individuals and students in the technology industry in Whatcom County. Nominations are open to Whatcom County businesses, students and residents in the following four categories:
1. Most Innovative New Technology, Product or Service
2. Outstanding Achievement in Industry Leadership
3. Rising Star
4. Technology Leader of Tomorrow
Nominations must be received no later than Friday, November 30, 2012 and winners will be chosen by the TAG Awards Committee based on the criteria listed for each category. Nominations should be submitted on-line at http://www.tagnw.org/nominations
