At the Whatcom Community College 2021 Commencement Ceremony, Hope Jose-Day was recognized as a recipient of the Discipline Outstanding Student award.
Hope is a first generation student; her parents are from Mexico. She excelled in Anthropology, orchestrated class-wide Zoom meetings, and held meaningful discussions with peers throughout the quarter. For her final project, she explored a Mixteca indigenous corn species for her final project - one that could both be used in the face of climate change for drought stricken communities around the world. The project highlighted the deep cultural identity of the corn and the cultural importance of food more generally. She was also the ASB president of Ferndale HS while in Anthropology class.
The WCC Foundation offers Hope our warm congratulations, and best of luck in the future. For more information on additional honors and awards students at WCC, click here: https://www.whatcom.edu/student-services/admissions-registration/commencement-ceremony/honors-awards
