Grafted

Our Mystery Wine this week was 2024 Esterhazy Grüner Veltliner from Burgenland region of Austria. The wine doesn’t have very strong aromatics but we can find some green apple, stone fruit, vegetal note and white pepper typical to this grape and style. Very light on the palate. The fruit is quite tart and refreshing. Acidity is medium although emphasized by the phenolic bitterness that Grüner is known for. Alcohol is medium as well which makes this wine a great summer sipper. Wiener schnitzel wouldn’t mind that pairing either. As always thank you to all who participated and join us next Wednesday and Thursday for another blind tasting. Cheers!

Last week’s Mystery Wine was 2024 Domaine Pichon Vouvray aka. Chenin Blanc from Loire Valley in France. This wine has a lot of orchard fruit flavors with honey suckle and a bit of stony minerality. It is off-dry and a bit of residual sugar masks wine’s high acidity. Still, the fruit on the palate is not very ripe suggesting cooler climate area. Good job to all who participated. Today is a hot one so we’re going to have another white wine for you to blind taste. It’s Wednesday and we’re open 4pm-10pm.

Our Mystery Wine this week was 2024 Lagar da Condesa ‘Kentia’ Albariño from Rias Baixas in Northern Spain. Cooler climate and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean gives this wine pale straw color with green reflexes, elevated acidity and salinity on the finish. We have some stone and tropical fruit going on but it’s not very ripe. A bit of white flowers like jasmine and that phenolic bitterness that makes already strong acidity feel even higher. It’s a light body, zippy wine, great for summertime seafood dishes. Congrats to all who participated! You guys are getting really good at this! Next week we’ll have another blind adventure. Join us!
