This piece has gone through a few different titles but none of them stuck.. For some reason this seemed like an appropriate day to post it. It’s 16” x 20” acrylic on canvas. Thanks for looking!

For some reason during 2020 I was looking for ways to pass the time. I can’t seem to remember why now.. I had always wanted to sculpt wacky versions of the Universal Monsters and it suddenly seemed like my opportunity came. This guy is about ten inches tall, hand sculpted from polymer clay, and built over a welded copper wire armature with a Jack In the Box antenna ball inside of him.
After I finished all of the sculptures I wanted to complete I still had extra time on my hands. I still can’t remember why.. It was then that I decided to hire someone to do 3D scans of these sculptures so that I could sell much less expensive resin prints and keep the originals. That’s what I did. I learned how to do resin 3D printing so that I could make reproductions and sell them at my shows. At first they did very well.
Then about a year and a half later plastic 3D printing became extremely popular and every show I did had three or four booths selling 3D prints of items they had nothing to do with creating and they were printed in color. This became the end. It was a losing battle trying to explain the difference between resin, hand painted prints of my own creations and all of the other 3D prints which could sell for the price of cheap toys that were just stolen designs. I don’t regret any of it. It was so fun. I’ll be selling off my last few complete painted sets and I’m selling the resin printer. I also have lots of the smaller ornament versions. Details will be coming soon.

Last week I got to take Jessie to her last Mother’s Day gift. We went to see No Doubt at the Sphere. It’s a band she’s always wanted to see but didn’t think she’d ever get to.. I’ve never been a big fan, but it was cool because I was in a band when I was 15 that opened for them. It wasn’t a big deal at the time as they were just a slightly larger local band. The stage behind them at the Sphere was covered with images of old flyers, many of which I recognized. I also saw the names of several local Riverside area bands. That was really cool.

There’s an artist that I’ve known for quite awhile who was never really able to make a living as an artist. They weren’t a fan of hard work and it just never quite worked. This was an ongoing source of frustration for them. Well, now that same person is selling courses where you pay for them to give you the three big secrets for how to get extremely wealthy as an artist. I really hate seeing people be ripped off, so I will tell you there aren’t three secrets to making it as an artist. That’s sorta ridiculous.
However, having said that, I’d like to tell you all about my new book I just published titled, “How to Get Rich as an Artist by Selling Books That Promise to Have the Three Secrets to Getting Rich as an Artist..“ This one really does have the secrets. Order today!!
