Well, it’s been ten years since I last posted a song and though I have not really improved with age, I figured it was time especially as I don’t know how much of these I got left in the tank. Ha, clunky chords and caterwauling lotta work for this old boy!

Quixotic Guy

I went to the Hootennanny
with a story in song to tell
even though the art of music
ain’t something I do all that well

Even do re mi tough for me
to strum along spryly and croon
with a guitar that’s got cobwebs
for strings and so damn out of tune

Guess I’ll dream
the impossible
till the day I die
when I’m on stage
in the big sky
and so high high high,
eternal poster boy
for the good
old college try
if heaven or hell
got room for
a quixotic guy

But I dreamt I was a rockstar
since the days I had me some hair
when my hutzpah was holy hell
on hot wheels and devil may care

Found out too late that rock ‘n’ roll
was much more than a pose alone
with my pout not pretty enough
to find itself in Rolling Stone

Argentina gave not a damn
about me so she’ll never wail
when the last shovel full of dirt
falls over my sorry ass tale

Maybe the earworms in the ground
will capture that elusive sound
and make a hit from all the near
misses in karma’s lost and found

I recorded this poem, “On Ice,” twelve years ago. Given that tonight is forecast to be seven degrees below zero with the wind chill even worse, and the ground covered by well over a foot of snow, I figured it be cool ( ha, sorry, I couldn’t resist 😎) to post this emotionally cold piece.
