Today is the feast day of St. Benedict.

Benedict was influential in developing the lifestyle of monasticism. He chose the life of a hermit in his early years, and many monks clung to his leadership.
⁣
Eventually, he started Monte Cassino, a monastery in Naples, Italy. His way of life is the foundation of the “Rule of Saint Benedict” which still influences religious life to this day.
⁣
Benedict is the patron of Europe and students. He also has a famous twin! His sister Scholastica (feast day Feb. 10) is the patron saint of Benedictine nuns and education.
