As the 15th anniversary of Katrina draws near, we realize many new BSL residents don't know some of the community's most moving recovery stories. Here's a happy-ending one from the wonderful MSNBC series (now archived without images), "Rising from Ruin."

Bulldozers were parked at this irreplaceable historic building, ready to raze it to the ground. The publicity from the story helped turn the tide at the eleventh hour (11:58!) and after an amazing community effort (and lots of help from MDAH Historic Preservation Division). The building now serves as a cherished marker of our town's heritage and home of the BSL Little Theatre.

Thank you, journalist Mike Stuckee and the others who helped save this place! Bay St. Louis owes you a great debt.
