Larry R. "Frog" Williams

Larry R. “Frog” Williams, age 68, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Appling Healthcare.

Larry was born April 10, 1958 in Appling County to the late Claude “Buck” Williams, Jr. and the late Mary Graham Williams. He was a farmer and member of Red Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, Jamie (Cindy) Williams and Christy Sellers both of Baxley; sisters, Jennie Drawdy of Graham and Susan (Dwain) Sellers of Baxley; brothers, Glenn Williams and Stacey (Cathy) Williams both of Baxley; grandchildren, Callie (Dillan) Bryant, Emily (Cody) Spikes, Christian (Jaleigh) Sellers, Maddie Williams and Marklee Latham; a great grandchild, Taleigh Sellers, arriving in the Fall; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Red Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Gill & Rev. Denny Waters officiating and a eulogy by Zack Williams. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Christian Sellers, Dillan Bryant, Cody Spikes, Jason Griffin, Zack Williams and Will Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joan Miles, Ryan Perry, Bryan Perry, and Scotty Turner.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, 6-8 p.m., at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Swain Funeral Home.

Kathleen Thomas Russell, 73, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Kathy was born April 9, 1953 in Appling County to the late Herbert “Snooks” Thomas and the late Orida Carter Thomas. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse with 32 years of service with Appling Healthcare. She enjoyed the simple things in life and was content watching birds or one of her favorite shows, Gunsmoke or Lassie.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Clenon Houston “C. H.” Russell, brother, Jim Thomas, and sisters, Arnie Sue Crosby, Lajuan Perry, Gail Holifield, and Janie Baxley.

Survivors include her sons, Clay Thomas (Blondale) of Douglas, Kelly Murphy (Michelle) Thomas and Richard Russell (Tanya) both of Baxley; sister, Mary Linda Turner of Baxley; and brother, Joel Ray Thomas of Baxley; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of life on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Swain Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Jason Randall Gruber, age 52, of Baxley passed away Monday, June 29, 2026 at Bacon County Hospital.

Jason was born on October 30, 1973, in Appling County. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps before building a career as a skilled welder, fabricator, and machinist. Blessed with a God-given talent for welding, Jason took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and exceptional craftsmanship.

Outside of work, Jason enjoyed fishing, riding four-wheelers, spending time at the river, and playing his guitar. He was also a gifted artist who loved drawing, sketching, and tattooing, always finding creative ways to express himself.

Jason had a remarkable sense of humor, a smile that could light up a room, and a warm personality that made everyone feel welcome. He never met a stranger and was a loyal, devoted friend to so many. His kindness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willie & Nellie Johnson and paternal grandparents, Randall Gruber & Mavis Pearce Gruber.

Survivors include his daughters, Madison Gruber and Madeline Gruber both of Baxley; parents, Jerry & Diane Gruber of Baxley; sister, Shana (David) Hutto of Lyons; a grandson, Ky’Aire Russell of Baxley; and two nephews, Pearce Hutto and Luke Hutto also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown and Pastor Darron Jackson officiating.

Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chad Beach, Terry Reese, Chris Stone, Travis Johnson, Bryan Johnson, David Hutto, Pearce Hutto and Luke Hutto.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of J M Miles Construction and Directors & Counselors of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit Drug Court.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
