Heavy rains from tropical storms can quickly overwhelm storm drains, resulting in flash flooding. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 to be prepared.
▶️ Clear Nearby Drainage: Clear leaves, debris and trash from catch basins, storm drains and gutters around your home so water can flow freely.
▶️ Elevate Outdoor Belongings: Move outdoor furniture, lawn equipment, electronics and valuables off the ground or up to a higher floor.
▶️ Deploy Flood Barriers: If you live in a low-lying or flood-prone neighborhood, place sandbags or water-absorbent barriers around ground-level doorways, patio entrances and garage doors.
▶️ Check Your Sump Pump: If your home has a sump pump, test it now and make sure it has a battery backup in case of power outages during thunderstorms.
