Mini Braids on fine/low density hair. 💕

Protective styles will never fade, but no protective style is one size fits all. Every style will look differently depending on your density and length.

Mini Braids (no hair added) are a great style to keep your hair hydrated, low maintenance, and healthy for weeks on end and the styling options are endless 😍🙌🏽

Let’s trim some hair 💇‍♀️

Here’s what I’ve been calling my “Reverse Curly Cut”, where I blow out the hair and shape it for health, then refine the shape for balance, one it’s curly.

This client made the perfect candidate for my Reverse Curly Cut, because it had been so long since her last trim, and she needed a more detailed trim that would prioritize health over shape.

Next time, she will get a Curly Cut to maintain her shape, while still keeping her ends healthy.

If you haven’t gotten a trim in 4 months; this is your sign ✂️

Finger Coil (Left) vs. Comb Coil (Right)

They are very similar but not exactly the same. Both last right around 3 weeks and can be worn as is or separated. It is definitely a style that requires neat, clean ends, so if you haven’t been keeping up with your trims (which I hope that you have 😄) I highly recommend that you book a trim with this style.

The finger coil is made by twirling the hair around your finger, in one direction, all the way down to the ends, while the comb coil is made by using a comb to twirl the hair, in one direction, from root to ends.

I like the neatness of comb coils because the comb detangles the section of hair as it is twirled from roots to ends, while finger coils lack the neatness because the hair isn’t being detangled and the tension isn’t as even has it would be with a comb. Additionally, finger coils shrink more than comb coils because of the uneven tension.

The advantage of finger coils is that you don’t need a tool, partings do not have to be perfect and it can easily be done at home. Finger coils look more “lived-in” and not-so-perfect, so if you like that look, finger coils are definitely the way to go.

It is definitely a preference, and both are still beautiful, but I’d much rather do comb coils behind the chair.

Have you tried comb or finger coils before? Share your thoughts! 🌻

Side note: Book as “Finger Coils” on the app because that what they are popularly know for. 😁
