🎻 BassFest Virtual Masterclass Series

Join us tomorrow for a special masterclass with Derek Weller, an accomplished performer and educator with a dynamic career across orchestral, chamber, and festival settings.

Derek is Instructor of String Bass at Interlochen Arts Academy and serves on faculty at Eastern Michigan University. He holds the Principal Double Bass position with Michigan Opera Theater, performs regularly with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and freelances with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Carmel Bach Festival Orchestra and appears frequently at chamber music festivals, including the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

An alumnus of Interlochen Arts Academy, Derek earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan. He performs on a unique collection of five basses, including a 300-year-old Italian instrument, a 200-year-old French bass, a Kay bass, and two modern instruments by Aaron Reiley.

We’re thrilled to welcome Jeong-Eun Lee as one of the collaborative pianists for the 2026 Louisiana Bass Festival!

🎓 Assistant Professor of Music in Collaborative Piano at Louisiana State University
🌍 Former faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Indiana University, SUNY Geneseo, and Riverside City College
🎼 Active soloist and chamber musician with performances across the United States
🎻 Founding pianist of Trio Zenia and former member of the award-recognized Trio 507
✨ Invited artist at SongStudio at Carnegie Hall in 2024

A passionate advocate for chamber music, duo piano repertoire, and contemporary works, Lee has collaborated with artists and ensembles nationwide, bringing depth, versatility, and artistry to every performance.

🎶 Her festival appearances include Bowdoin, Kneisel Hall, SongFest, the National Flute Association, and the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she serves as collaborative pianist and performance coach.
