Ten years later, Baton Rouge still remembers.

Today, members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department joined our partners from the Baton Rouge Police Department, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and Baton Rouge EMS for a memorial walk honoring the officers whose lives were taken or forever changed by the attack of July 17, 2016.

We remember Deputy Brad Garafola, Officer Matthew Gerald and Officer Montrell Jackson, who were killed that morning, and Sgt. Nick Tullier, who died in 2022 from complications of his injuries.

Riders with the Gulf Coast Brotherhood Ride completed a journey that began in Slidell at 7:30 a.m., arriving at Baton Rouge Police Department headquarters shortly after 3 p.m. Their ride carried the same message as the walk: remembrance, brotherhood and a promise that sacrifice will not be forgotten.

We also continue to honor Officer Chad Montgomery and Sgt. Bruce Simmons, who were wounded that day.

Some anniversaries are measured in years. Others are measured in the lives they continue to touch.

Ten years later, Baton Rouge still walks together.

Never forgotten.
