Despite ongoing efforts, childhood obesity prevalence in the U.S. has continued to increase over the past 10 years, with over 1-in-5 children and adolescents affected by obesity. Through a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute provided to Pennington Biomedical and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, researchers are studying the ideal “dose” of behavioral interventions to treat childhood obesity in rural and minority communities across Louisiana and Tennessee.

A powerful example is the Metabolic Basis of Disease Center of Biomedical Research Excellence at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Its recent grant renewal represents a $10.9 million investment over five years to continue supporting emerging scientists studying how nutrition and metabolism impact health and disease.
