I AM CASTING MY VOTE TODAY

I took some big risks this year and the result wasn't success. Currently I mill about the wreckage of a dream I hoped would take flight. All facets of my life are part of the carnage: career, family, love, and my Self. To keep myself going I maintain my work schedule, fill the gaps with busy work, journal, go to therapy and ride. Riding my bike brings me into the moment-brings me out of the mental gymnastics of ruminating and projecting.
In a moment of desperation, I entered into a bike race that has been terrifying to me. It is also the first race I have done in a long time completely alone. No friends, training buddies or loved ones. I had fun, felt pride in myself for many reasons, met myself with a congratulatory smile and a slap on the back at the finish line.
I was keenly aware of everyone as I made it back to my car. The families looking for their loved one to cross the finish line, partners acting as porters to support their racer, little ones pretending to shred like their racing parent, lovers riding bike to bike as they crossed they accomplished a goal together.
My current life situation is requiring me to examine how I am in relationship with myself. One question I asked my therapist is WHY? Being in the middle of all the beautiful human connection at the finish line of a race snapped it all in view. I can love myself, nurture myself, celebrate myself and WANT TO SHARE with others. We do the deep work to respectfully and honorably connect to other HUMANS. We can bear each other's burdens, witness each other's joy, support and encourage AND do the same for ourselves.
I spend most of my days talking to people that think differently than me. We may hold similar values but disagree on how to achieve them. We may hold different values but have the same intention on making the world a better place.
The next phase of government will effect many things, but it CANNOT effect our innate want and need to be in healthy relationship with ourselves and others.

I AM VOTING TODAY for CONNECTION
