Early Medieval people thought of children as “Incomplete Adults”. What a huge conundrum when depicting Baby Jesus. He was perfect from birth and couldn’t be seen as imperfect.

To get around the problem, they depicted him as an old man- often with a receding hairline.

Something deeper told me to keep going. That if I followed the threads long enough, my creativity would lead me somewhere true.
