A momentary respite…
A coconut mint daiquiri and a caipirinha - perfect drinks for this hot weather and a lovely way to spend a rainy, Sunday afternoon. (If you’re wondering why that caipirinha is so dark, it’s because I like to muddle mine with coconut sugar. It’s an easy way to add depth and richness to a profile that can sometimes be sharp. If you’re caipirinha curious, you’re in luck, because I’ll be teaching them in a public class on Saturday!)
I was fortunate enough to have a guest bring me two bottles of Coconut Cartel rum after their recent visit to FL. I wish it were distributed in LA, but, alas, it is not; however, enough of you travel to FL (and AL, GA…) frequently enough that it would be easy to score a bottle. Grab one (or two) the next time you’re there and treat yourself to one of the most delightful daiquiris you’ll ever have. (Mint in a daiquiri can be challenging, as it can quickly overpower the flavor profile, particularly when you shake it as intensely as I do. I like to add my mint 2/3 of the way into the shake. It’s should be a light note in the drink; not a mint bomb.) It’s a favorite at our house and a favorite with guests. If you grab a bottle and make one, I’d love to know what you think. Cheers!
Coconut Mint Daiquiri
1 3/4 oz Coconut Cartel Dark Rum
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz Demerara syrup (Liber)
3-4 mint leaves
Add first three ingredients to shaker, adjusting sweetness as needed. Add ice. Shake 10-15 sec. Add mint. Shake several seconds more. Double strain into chilled coupe.

A late bloomer…🪂🌺
My birthday is always a reminder that I was a middle-aged lady with a dream, who jumped out of a plane without a parachute; not really sure how this would all go. But you all have given me a really beautiful place to not just land but to bloom and grow. Without question, you are the best part of this gig.
I would enjoy nothing more than kicking off my weekend celebration with friends. Since it’s my birthday, we are skipping over the intro and jumping straight into making delicious cocktail. (Because this is an advanced class, previous attendance in a Tipsy class is required.) In addition to our cocktails and usual fare, there will be champagne and cake. I hope you’ll join me! 🥳🎂🥂
