We are excited to share this video highlighting the LSU EnvironMentors program—an authentic, locally-relevant, and transformative mentorship experience that connects East Baton Rouge Parish high school students with LSU undergraduate and graduate student mentors to explore environmental science through hands-on research, weekly meetings, and place-based field experiences around the state.
Through year-long research projects and meaningful mentorship, students gain critical thinking, communication, and STEM skills while building confidence and discovering new pathways for their future.
A special thank you to the Gulf Research Program for funding and supporting this work. We are also incredibly grateful for our partners, LSU College of the Coast & Environment, MissDelta Initiative, and EBR Schools, for making this program possible.
We are so proud of our students, mentors, and community who make EnvironMentors such a powerful and inspiring program. 💚

For Kimauri’s project, she is exploring the efficiency of cleaning products in reducing bacteria and mold growth on doorknobs. Her team swabbed doors at specific time intervals after product application to see how quickly and how long the cleaning items are effective for.
Stay tuned for more protégé spotlights!
