Here's our take on organic vs paid marketing. You need BOTH to work together. Once you're able to create a digital budget within your overall marketing budget, diversifying your marketing dollars gives you the best chance to reach more of the right people at the right time. Paid marketing also encompasses billboards, print ads, and paid placements, but I push continually for digital paid ads so you have a clearer view of what's working and where traffic is coming from.

Paid advertising doesn't mean your organization should totally ditch all your other marketing–they just amplify what you're already doing. If sending the yearly direct mail works, do that! But don't wait all year to market to your community.
