Yesterday, Advantous Law Managing Partner, Jason R. Brown, once again moderated a panel of top- and high-level state tax administrators at the ABA/IPT Advanced Sales Tax Seminar held annually in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year’s session, "Steamboat Strategies: Navigating the Choppy Waters of Tax Administration,” included:
🔹 Richard Nelson – Secretary, Louisiana Department of Revenue
🔹 Josh Pens – Director of Tax Policy, Colorado Department of Revenue
🔹 Marita Sciarrotta – Acting, Director, New Jersey Division of Taxation
🔹 Andrew Furuseth – Director, Sales and Use Tax Division, North Carolina Department of Revenue
The tax administrators discussed their states’ recent (and upcoming) tax reform (and other legislative) efforts; the most prominent administrative, policy and compliance issues they are seeing in their respective states; and what issues they see on the horizon. It was, as ever, an insightful discussion on the ever-evolving state and local tax landscape. Advantous Law thanks American Bar Association Section on Taxation; Institute for Professionals in Taxation; and the Advanced Sales Tax Seminar Planning Committee (of which Jason is a member) for continuing to give tax administrators the opportunity to speak to the seminar’s attendees.
