A new chapter has begun.

For the 2026–2027 school year, Helix Legal Academy has officially joined Helix Mentorship & Maritime Academy to become Helix Mentorship & Maritime Middle School (Grades 6–12).

While our name has changed, our commitment to excellence has only grown stronger.

Before joining together, Helix Legal Academy celebrated tremendous academic growth on the 2026 LEAP Test:

📚 English Language Arts
⬆️ Basic & Above Growth: +15 percentage points
⭐ Mastery & Advanced Growth: +7 percentage points

➗ Mathematics
⬆️ Basic & Above Growth: +16 percentage points
⭐ Mastery & Advanced Growth: +10 percentage points

These results reflect the dedication of our students, families, teachers, and leaders. They also serve as the foundation for what comes next.

As one unified middle school, we are combining our strengths, expanding opportunities, and raising expectations for every student. With a renewed focus on rigorous instruction, strong relationships, and preparing students for success in high school and beyond, them Sharks are in the water—and they’re swimming! 🦈💚💙

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the remarkable progress made across the City of Baker School System during the 2025–2026 school year.

Through the partnership between the City of Baker School System and Helix Community Schools, which has led the district’s academic and operational initiatives, Baker achieved extraordinary gains on the 2026 LEAP assessments based on our analysis of the 2025 and 2026 Louisiana Department of Education State/LEA data.

Highlights include:

📈 No. 1 in Louisiana in overall Mastery-and-Above improvement
📚 No. 1 in Louisiana in statewide ELA improvement
➕ No. 2 in Louisiana in High School Math Mastery Percentage Growth among school systems
🏆 Grade 6 ELA — Largest improvement in the state
🏆 Grade 5 Math — Largest improvement in the state
✅ 18 of 24 comparable assessments improved

This success belongs to our students, teachers, school leaders, support staff, families, the City of Baker School Board, and the Helix Community Schools team that worked alongside them every day. It reflects stronger instruction, targeted interventions, relentless coaching, and a shared commitment to ensuring every student succeeds.

While our work is not finished, the results demonstrate what is possible when a district and its educational partner work together with a clear vision and unwavering focus on student achievement.

The City of Baker School System is moving forward, and Helix Community Schools is honored to lead and support that transformation.
