RETIRED COUNCILWOMAN TARA WICKER AND COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS LAUNCHES the “Blight to Bright” Sunflower Planting Initiative

BATON ROUGE, La. (April 22, 2022) – Tara Wicker, an experienced public sector leader and long-time community organizer, announced today the launch of the “Blight to Bright” initiative.

Join Community Builders, Inc., retired Councilwoman Tara Wicker of The W Consulting Group, and local community partners for the inaugural “Blight to Bright” Initiative. The initiative was launched to assist in solving a growing and frustrating issue of overgrown blighted properties throughout the parish. On Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, at 4:00 p.m., the first Blight to Bright Sunflower Planting will take place in Mid City on North 25th St., on the vacant lot between Florida St. and Laurel St.

“With all of the bad news going on in our city, I believe that we all could use and appreciate a good, and positive story, '' stated Tara Wicker,” This planting initiative is the first of ten lots in Mid City that will be converted. Tara Wicker said, “This lot was an awful mess and eyesore to the community. A man was even found dead on the lot years ago and a woman was found dead from an overdose several years ago. It was cleared by the owner, and now sunflowers will be planted as a symbol of taking a blighted property and turning it into a bright spot in the community!!
