What a beautiful season itās been! Iāve been so immersed in the moment (and in the soil) that Iāve barely posted at allāfully unplugged and loving it. Iām excited to share some of the highlights! š±
This weekend, Pauline Aka mom (who youāll hear more and more about), Kate Sexton, and I spent two blissful hours harvesting sweet potatoesāmostly by hand.
Sweet potatoes are Paulineās passion project, something sheās been experimenting with for a few years now.
This year, she nailed the timing on half, and we were blessed with an abundant harvest, including a few massive potatoes! š„
Timing is everything when it comes to sweet potatoesāsome were planted a month apart just to test it out, and it made all the difference. š¤Æ
We managed to harvest just before the first frost, which is crucial because sweet potatoes left out in the frost almost always rot.
After harvesting, weāre ācuringā them in a controlled environment (Paulineās garage this time). Over the next two weeks, the sweet potatoes will sweeten up and they will harden, making them ready to enjoy.
This whole process is something new weāre learning together, with Pauline leading the way, and far more fluent in the language of sweet potatoes.
Iām excited to be part of this and canāt wait to see how next season goesāhopefully with an even earlier start for the potato slips and drying them in the high tunnel next season. Hereās to sweet moments, sweet harvests, and sweet family & friends! š
