Pie: it's been my ticket to savoring.
As my 4 boys grew and started going in a hundred different directions one family dinner night a week became a non-negotiable. I realized if I just made supper they were likely to eat and run, obliging the rule to be home on Monday night, but not enticed to linger. I wanted time to savor our one night a week together.
So, I started making pies. Berry. Peach. Apple. Coconut. Chess. Knowing the filling was not nearly as important as the love and hope for 10 more minutes of extended connection with my fast approaching adulthood children.
It was like magic.
Each Monday morning I would craft a yummy pie, savoring the experience looking forward all day what would happen after dinner when I pulled it out of the oven.
Our Monday night suppers are long gone now, but the savoring remains.
