đđ April 2. World Autism Awareness Day.
Today, we honor the parents raising autistic children..the ones who love, advocate, protect, and show up in ways the world doesnât always see.
This day is for the parents who learned to celebrate progress in inches, not miles.
For the ones who understand that communication comes in many forms.
For the ones who know that meltdowns arenât âbad behavior,â but overwhelmed hearts asking for help.
Itâs for the parents who had to rewrite the parenting book they thought theyâd useâŚ
and build a new one based on patience, intuition, and unconditional love.
Some days are heavy.
Some days are magic.
Most days are both.
But one thing is always true:
Your child is not broken.
Your child is not âless.â
Your child is beautifully and uniquely wired.
And you..the parent..are doing an incredible job.
Even on the days you doubt yourself.
Even on the days that feel long and loud and overwhelming.
Even on the days you wonder if anyone understands.
Your love is seen.
Your effort is seen.
Your childâs light is seen.
Today, the world pauses to recognize autism..
but you live this love, this patience, this strength every single day.
To every parent raising an autistic child:
You are doing amazing.
Your child is doing amazing.
And the world needs more hearts like yours. đ

Pastors and church ministry leaders: Letâs have a conversation on how ABLE can help you connect with the largest unchurched people group in your area: Families and individuals affected by disability.
Message me at [email protected]
Pastor⌠if youâre wondering where to start when it comes to disability ministryâŚStart in Acts.
Because Acts doesnât give us a program. It gives us a pattern. And that pattern shows us how the Church moved toward people with real needsâphysical, social, mental, spiritualâbefore they ever felt âequipped.â
𦽠Acts 3 â A man who couldnât walk is placed at the temple gate daily
Heâs been there forever. Easy to overlook. Easy to step around. Peter stops, looks directly at him, engages him, and refuses to treat him like background noise.
â They saw the person others had learned to ignore
đ Acts 8 â A man trying to understand Scripture but doesnât have the language for it. Philip doesnât wait for him to come to church. He runs up, sits beside him, and enters his world.
â They moved toward confusion and met it with clarity
đ¨ Acts 9 â A man who just had a life-altering encounter and is now blind and isolated
Everyone else is hesitant. Ananias goes anyway, calls him âbrother,â and helps him take his next step.
â They moved toward fear and uncertainty with presence
đ˝ď¸ Acts 6 â A group of widows being overlooked and underserved. The issue is brought up, and leadership doesnât dismiss itâthey reorganize everything to care well.
â They changed structure when people were being missed
đ Acts 10 â People considered outsiders, misunderstood, and ânot our kindâ. Peter enters their home, listens, stays, eats, and watches God move among them.
â They crossed uncomfortable lines to include people
đĽ Acts 1:8 â The Spirit promised as their power and guide. They didnât wait to feel ready. They trusted God as they stepped in.
â Their starting point wasnât preparationâit was obedience
Do you see it? This isnât just about disability. This is about how the Church moves toward people who need support, understanding, and access. Disability ministry doesnât start with a room. It starts with a posture.
Seeing what others overlook. Moving toward what feels uncomfortable. Adjusting when people are being missed. Removing barriers in real time.
Because the early church didnât say,
âWeâre not equipped.â They movedâŚand learned as they went.
So if youâre asking where to start, start there.

As we gear up for Autism Awareness, letâs remember to point hearts to Christ first.

We have to do betterâŚ.
Some churches are still calling autism a demon.
Instead of asking, âHow can we support this child?â
The question becomes, âWhat spirit is behind this?â
Autism is not a curse.
It is not witchcraft.
It is a neurological difference.
We once went somewhere hoping for support⌠and we were told my son is bewitched.
I remember how my heart sank. The guilt that tried to creep in. The quiet question "Did I fail spiritually?"
But what was missing wasnât deliverance.
It was understanding.
We love positive prayers. Pray for strength. Pray for wisdom. Pray for peace. Those prayers hold us together.
But autism does not need casting out.
Our children donât need to be fixed.
They need to be understood.
Faith and education can exist together.
And when we choose compassion over fear⌠families like mine can finally breathe. đ

Sometimes how we react can make or break a moment. Try being silly and over the top when theyâre about to have a meltdown. Youâll watch that frown turn upside down as you redirect their attention and energy!
My 5-year-old was having a moment, so I took my hand, and started plucking the air around her . . .
Of course she stopped the meltdown to ask what I was doingâŚ
âShh, sit really still . . . theyâre all over youâ . . . I said, staying focused.
âWhatâs all over me?â She asked, almost forgetting why she was upset.
âThe grouchies!â I continued . . . âWeâve got to get them off you!!â
At this point she realized that I was being silly and she started laughing.
âNo those arenât grouchies, theyâre HAPPIES!!â She said.
âOh good!â I said, putting one back and plucking other spots.
âNo thatâs not a grouchy either!!â
âAre they all gone?!â I asked.
âYes!â She said laughing.
âI want a hug.â She said.
Sometimes we can shift the tone of the moment through play and connection . . . not always, and I promise I know itâs not easy, especially when youâre tired & frustrated . . . but, it's worth it when it works.
You become a soft spot to land after the big emotions pass.
So next time your little one starts spiraling, try plucking those grouchies away.

These are some of the foundational supplements that help calm inflammation, regulate the immune system, support detox pathways, and reduce the flare cycles that bring on OCD, tics, regression, rage episodes, sleep changes, and anxiety.
When you focus on:
⨠lowering inflammation
⨠supporting mitochondria
⨠repairing the gut
⨠and removing hidden triggersâŚ
you start seeing the child underneath the flare come back.
PANS/PANDAS recovery isnât overnight but it is possible with the right approach, labs, and targeted support. Youâre not crazy, and youâre not alone.
