Kentucky’s top prosecutor is asking the state’s highest court to uphold the conviction of Brooks Houck in the death of Crystal Rogers.

Russell Coleman filed a brief Wednesday with the Kentucky Supreme Court, arguing there was substantial evidence presented during Houck’s 2025 murder trial and urging justices to reject his appeal.

Houck was convicted in connection with the 2015 disappearance of Rogers, a Nelson County mother of five who was last seen alive over the Fourth of July weekend. Her vehicle was later found abandoned along the Bluegrass Parkway, but her body has never been recovered.

In his appeal, Houck argued prosecutors failed to prove Rogers was murdered. However, Coleman’s filing points to witness testimony, cellphone data, and what he described as Houck’s behavior following her disappearance, including what the brief calls a “distinct indifference” in the hours after she went missing.

The case, which included testimony from more than 50 witnesses during a 10-day trial, now moves to the state Supreme Court for consideration.
