Your Life Less Messy

Does anyone know what this is?

This curious item was discovered during a basement clean-out at the home of one of my clients. It appears quite antique and given the age of my client's home, it's conceivable this might have been in the home a very long time.

I have NO IDEA what it actually is though, and Google Lens offered no help.

Aside from its odd shape it actually is a music box of sorts -to say that it winds and plays music- It almost appears as though it's an insert or part for something else. There is a place for a hook and a handle with a spring.

My client and I are both very interested in solving the mystery, if anyone can shed some light on this find, it would be greatly appreciated. Please find pictures and videos attached.
