Behind every ride, warm welcome, and daily connection is someone choosing to show up for their community.

In March alone, three dedicated CHAIway Volunteer drivers supported 23 ride requests for older adults traveling to medical appointments, errands, and essential day-to-day activities that help maintain independence and connection.

That same spirit continues across CHAI, including at the Myerberg Center, where nearly 50 volunteers help create a welcoming space where older adults feel supported, engaged, and known. That commitment was recently celebrated during a volunteer appreciation lunch honoring the people who give their time to strengthen the community every day.

Across every program, volunteers help build the relationships and social connections that allow older adults to remain rooted in the communities they love.

This year, ten families in the 21215 area became homeowners with CHAI's support. Through the Homebuyer Incentive Grant, we invested $50,000 directly into new homeowners, granting each family $5,000 to help cover the upfront costs of buying a first home.

Today, those families are settling into their homes, getting to know their neighbors, and putting down roots in the communities they love.

With funding for the Homebuyer Incentive Grant fully awarded, we’re proud to continue offering low‑interest loans and HUD‑certified counseling to support residents at every stage of the homeownership journey. Learn more on our website or subscribe to CHAILights for future updates:

This week, Jack visited CHAI with his mom, brother, and sister to hand deliver a special donation.

Each year for his birthday, Jack asks friends and family to bring $5 to his party to support a cause instead of giving gifts. This year, when he learned there are organizations that support older adults, he immediately wanted to help.

Inspired by his “grand-friend” Matty, a lifelong family friend he loves dearly, Jack chose to support CHAI and the older adults we serve.

We were so touched by his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness at such a young age. It was a joy to thank him with a CHAI swag bag full of goodies, and even more meaningful to see how excited he was to give back.

Thank you, Jack, for reminding all of us that you are never too young to make a difference!
