It’s time for another weekly teaching tip and it’s April, which means it is National Poetry Writing Month!
📌Engaging students in the areas of their ability and challenge allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment while being challenged. Be mindful of what your students can do and collaborate with them when goal setting to ensure they understand the “why” behind the challenges.
📌When we teach poetry, we really must stop and reflect on the purposes of these lessons. Poetry connects us in ways that many other types of texts do not. It moves us. It expands our worldview. It challenges societal norms and expectations. And it reminds us that we are not alone.
